Why Is Quality Control Essential In Steel Fabrication?

June 29, 2022
Quality Control Essential

We all live in a world where everything around us is built from metals. If you take any building, right from the foundation to roofing, you can find one or other type of metal. These metals increase the stability and durability of the construction. However, you never know if the products that you receive from the manufacturer or supplier have undergone complete quality control. The MS steel suppliers in Chennai are well-known for conducting a proper in-house quality control process.

These quality control operations are non-negotiable, but having such a system within a company will surely increase the product standard, especially if you are into metal fabrication. Metal fabrication is a process where the given metal is converted into the desired structure through the required machining process.

The primary purpose of considering the quality control measure in steel fabrication is to produce a quality product and create a winning situation for both the company and the buyer. Hence, in this post, let us see why quality control is essential in steel fabrication.

Quality And Consistency:

The foremost thing for any product to stay for a longer time is the quality. So, when considering metal fabrication, there are so many factors that fabricators have to think like alloy composition, formation process, and many more. Hence, the quality control process starts right from the material selection to producing quality and custom-made products.

Quality products not only give desired output but can also give a consistent manufacturing process. If there is not a quality control system, the entire production process can go for a toss. Thus, it is essential to have a quality control system to deliver high-quality products like MS chequered plate and a consistent manufacturing process without any interruption.

Lesser Hazard And Risk:

Secondly, a good quality control system lessens the risk and hazards associated with metal fabrication. Some of the disasters that happen in the industries or at the fabrication centre are due to low-grade materials. Hence, with the help of quality control, the manufacturer can segregate the metal that is unfit for the fabrication process.

For example, if a machine stops working, a quality control check team can come up with a solution quickly and resolve the issue within no time. Hence, it does not affect the production of the mid-way.

The Benefits Of Hiring A Quality Control System Are

  • They evaluate to find the faulty materials regularly, especially while producing construction materials like sail TMT bar.
  • They will allow only the product approved by the OSHA code (The Occupational Safety and Health Standards Act).
  • Ensuring workers are capable of operating the concerned equipment.
  • To make sure that employees have essential personal gear for protection.
  • Ensuring the metal products are handled, stored, and shipped by adhering to the legal practices.

Abiding By Company Standards:

Thirdly, all the fabricated metal produced should comply with the company standards. If the produced product doesn’t meet the business codes, then the manufacturer and the buyer are at risk of penalties, charges, and related liabilities.

Hence, by now, you might have understood the importance of the quality control system and what are the benefits of hiring them. Bharat steels are the best JSW steel dealers in Chennai that offer quality steel products without compromising its standards.

Advantages Of The Steel Frame In The Construction Industry

December 22, 2021
Steel Frame In The Construction Industry

A framework is the building block for the construction industry. It serves as the backbone for the structures to sustain and remain sturdy in every situation. Hence, many steel suppliers use steel to make the framework for the construction. The steel frame is the “skeleton frame” of intersection vertical and horizontal steel beams that support the walls, roofs, and floors of the building. Thus, the quality of material determines the ability of the structure to withstand environmental factors. Hence, steel is known for its high durability and strength that makes them suitable for construction. Steel is also a preferred material for fabricators because of its versatility. These steel frames are fabricated to meet the building standards and codes. Hence, in this post, let us see some advantages of the steel frame in the construction industry.

Durable:

The foremost advantage of using steel in construction is their durability. Unlike wood, steel doesn’t get damaged by internal or external factors very easily. Steel is indeed denser compared to wood but has a better strength-weight ratio. It means the pipes, beams, and channels used in the construction have a high strength-weight ratio for the same quantity of wood. Thus, there is no doubt that steel has more durability compared to other construction materials. However, certain situations test the durability of steel like corrosion, abrasion, and many more. So, steel manufacturers use barrier coatings to last them longer. These coatings are coated even for MS chequered plate, while using them in wall and ceiling cladding.

Manages wind uplift:

Another prime factor that affects the structure is the wind. Wind uplift is a physical condition where the pressure below the roofing is higher compared to pressure above the roof. The factors that cause wind uplift are location, environment, disasters, and many more. Sometimes internal factors like design, materials, height, and framing also cause uplift variation. However, steels are the ideal solution to handle the wind uplift. It is because the wind load has sufficient stiffness against the horizontal beam load that eliminates the uplift variation. Thus, it does not affect the steel framing at any cost. Some steel manufactures use the SAIL TMT bar with steel frame in the high-rise building for more flexibility and stability.

Versatility:

Thirdly, as mentioned earlier, steel is the best example of being versatile compared to other materials. You can cut or fabricate the steel frames as per the building requirements by using heat treatments. These treatments improvise the ductility and machinability of steel. Steel frames are of different types like earthquake loads, dead loads, temperature loads, and many more. For example, a small level building requires higher loads compared to high-rise buildings. In this case, you can use steel frames that are fabricated to meet this purpose.

Hence, these are the advantages of using the steel in frameworks of the buildings. If you want to have a sturdy frame for your building then contact Bharat Steel, the best JSW steel dealers in Chennai for high quality products.

How Is Steel Used In The Shipbuilding Industry?

September 11, 2021
The Shipbuilding Industry

The shipbuilding industry is one of the major users of steel that use steel and steel plate sectors. The steel industry with its exceptional works with numerous technological innovations in the shipbuilding industries made them reach new heights. Have you ever wondered how the vessel is resistant to wind and storm?. Because the steel used in shipbuilding undergoes the Thermo Mechanical Control Process to improve the strength and efficiency of transportation through the ship. The TMCP steel is an excellent heat controller while extracting crude petroleum. Shipbuilding is the largest consumer in the world and many steel suppliers produce TMCP processed steel for ship construction. Therefore, steel is the most versatile material for building the ship’s inner and outer parts. Hence, in this post, let us know more about how steel is used in the shipbuilding industry.

Container vessels:

Steel is the core material in making the container vessel. The wide openings to load and unload the containers are made of high-strength steel. For instance, if the size of the container vessel is around 10,000 TEU, then the size of the steel plate used is around 100mm in thickness. Therefore, the relationship between the container vessel and the steel plate is linear. The resistance to the cracks and fractures is reduced by adding various technologies named the HTUFF technology and fine microstructure of HAZ. The MS chequered plate is used in making anchor and anchor bolts.

Oil tankers:

Traditional oil tankers used to have thousands of pits because of the crude petroleum and the reason for the pits is still unknown. The pits cause ocean contamination and many manufacturers were in search of alternative options. As a result, they developed high-strength steel bottom plates for crude petroleum tankers and reservoirs. These plates are corrosion resistant and prevent the ocean from oil and petroleum contamination.

Doors:

The watertight doors are made of steel, and it provides access to either side of the compartments. In a passenger ship, the watertight doors are used by the passengers to pass through their accommodation. The doors are made of mild steel and cast steel to prevent the compartment from flooding and provide high strength in uncertain times.

Propellers and rudder pintles:

Steel is used in making the propellers and rudder. These are made from processed and fabricated steel plates and are coated with inert plastic foam to avoid corrosion. Nowadays, many steel suppliers in Chennai use materials like tufnol and stainless steel for bearings and liners. Hence, these high-strength steels are the ideal option for shipbuilding compared to aluminium and zinc.

Therefore, as seen, the benefits of steel and its products are enormous and used in every part of the ship. Hence, if you want high-strength steel for your business, approach JSW steel dealers in Chennai for high-quality and strength steel.

Tool Steels – Gets Everything Done

August 10, 2021
Tool Steels

Steel is an alloy made of iron with a lower amount of carbon. Have you noticed the screwdriver you are using? Did you think about how it was made? Hardly, right? The tools we are using in our daily lives are made from tool steels. Tool steels is the combination of carbon and alloy steel with other elements such as tungsten, chromium, vanadium, and molybdenum. Most steel dealers add nickel and cobalt in tool steel to enhance the performance of the steel at high temperatures. In this post let us discuss the detailed classification about the tool steels and their application in various fields.

Water hardening (W-Grades):

It is also known as group W steels. It is the commonly available hardening tool steel and the alloying element found in the steel is carbon. In some cases, chromium is added to increase the wear resistance and hardness of the material. It is brittle compared to other steel products and cannot be used at high temperatures. All the W steels have to undergo water treatment to increase the hardness. It is used in making cold headings, cutting knives and tools.

Air-hardening (A grades):

It is all-purpose and a high carbon steel. It contains alloys of tungsten, chromium, molybdenum, and manganese. The A steels undergo an oil quenching process to increase the strength of the material. Air-hardening steels have high wear resistance and can be used up to 200 degrees celsius. It is used in making knurling tools, drawing and piercing dies, broaches, and many more.

D-type (D-grades):

It is also high carbon steel with high chromium content. It is formulated in a way that they have a high abrasion resistance and exhibits air-hardening tool steel characteristics. It is used in making forging dies, die-casting die blocks, and drawing dies.

Oil-hardening (O grades):

It has higher wear resistance due to the presence of carbon content. The oil-hardening tool steels can be used up to 260 degrees celsius to improve the efficiency of the steel. The disadvantage of the tool steel is that it loses its ductility and toughness when the temperature increases. It is commonly used in making arbors, bushing, thread cutting, collets, and die blanking.

Shock-resisting type (S-grades):

It is designed in a way to resist shock at low or high temperatures. In S type steel a small amount of silicon is added to enhance the tempering resistance of tool steels. It also forms a microstructure to resist the deformation under some tempered conditions. It is commonly used in chisel blacksmiths, battering tools, boiler-shop tools, and chisel cold working.

Therefore, SAIL TMT Bar and tool steel are the backbone for all types of construction works. Hence, consider the tips considered in the post to make a better purchase.
